Screen resolution cannot adjust

just re-installed windows xp and my screen resolution is wrong but i cannot adjust it in control panel /display. the sreen resolution is set to 640x480 pix

and colour quality is set to lowest 4bit and it will not let me change these settings. Why? Please Help. how can i change these settings to the correct settings.

Sounds like you don't have the graphics card drivers installed. Did you get a driver CD with the graphics card/motherboard (integrated graphics)?

the graphics were already installed and iv'e not got any drivers on cd or floppy.

Unlikely if you did a fresh install, Windows will have installed it's default drivers hence limiting your resolution and colour depth.
