pattricia
Walking round Chatsworth House Christmas shop, I was amused to see either tapes or CDs entitled "Relaxation for your cat" It was ordinary relaxation music and it said "Relaxation for you & your cat".Im not a pet owner myself but I wondered ,do cats or any animals understand when music is on ? How do they react ?
gempud
My dog seems calmer when the radio or TV is on. Whether it's to do with music or talking or just the comfort of hearing noise I'm not sure.
medusa
Most of my cats don't appear to recognise or care about the music that's on, but my first cat Tizzy had a particular thing for violin music. She loved music with harmonics in it like Paganini, and would settle down to nuzzle the speakers a la mummy cat with her kitten and then she'd go to sleep snuggled up against them, purring like a diesel engine. She also disliked most things that were loud, but I think that was because of her being a shy and scared little thing, rather than the type of music. My neighbour had a dog that used to howl when the "Coronation St.Theme tune was on,and didnt stop until it had finished.
Twiglet
When the Egg advert is on, and the baby guinea pig rolls over and squeaks, one of my pigs wheeks back! They do know when music is on and they hate it, they purr with disapproval but I think it's more to do with the high frequencies than the music itself. As for relaxation tapes for cats......... sooz22
My cats only show interest in movement, we were watching a documentary on owls and they tried to 'bat' them off the telly. They got in a huff when they couldnt manage it and stropped off to eat from their bowl instead.

My cat hates noise and being a shy one, is probably the same reason. My cat particularly hates 'LOST' which is a shame, I thought we had so much in common:hihi:

Mine 'pricks' his ears up when birds are on TV, but for some reason he does the same as yours were motor racing is on, and I've seen this happen with other cats.
