Halibut
Optical illusion, caused by there being buildings in proximity, to which you can compare the Moon. When it's in the middle of an empty sky, there's nothing against which to compare its size, and your eyes mislead you. Isn't there also a magnifying effect that occurs on acount of the moon's light passing through a lengthier amount of atmosphere when low over the horizon? Heyesey
Isn't there also a magnifying effect that occurs on acount of the moon's light passing through a lengthier amount of atmosphere when low over the horizon? If you find a stone (or pea, as Jabby suggested) that exactly covers the Moon when held at arm's length while the Moon is high in the sky, you'll find that it still exactly covers the Moon when the Moon is down near the horizon and looks enormous. I've done this and it works, and I still find it hard to believe the brain just won't accept logic in favour of what its eyes are telling it. bigflesh
"Moon Boots" have also been known to disproportionate the actual size of the moon, giving it a more 'rounder' appearance. Additionally, certain view points of the moon give it a higher "lifted" effect. Although this has been known to wear off somewhat, especially after childbirth. I wouldn't imagine so. I'd think that light would be refracted and change the colour of the moon, but not the apparent size. I could be wrong though, I frequently am. SHANE-D-PAIN
For some reason I can't see the moon from any window in this house at any time so.... Did anyone get a picture? I'd love to see it.

In order to get a good view of the moon, you need to make sure you open the curtains first. Sit back.... and admire it's moonship.
