New apple tree has come into leaf - What to do?

Recommended Posts

Since apple trees are hardy, and the new buds that form in the spring do it long before the frosts have stopped, I wouldn't worry too much.

I think that they will just stop progressing any further at some point, and stay that way until the spring, when they'll start again.

ah, we had a problem with a new apple tree and a frost

It was a minnarette. It's delicate buds were frostbitten by a late frost, and the whole tree never recovered (decided to only grow at the top)

As it's a young tree, I'd wrap it in agricultural fleece until the weather gets warmer again - just to be on the safe side :)

If you have any plants that are either not hardy or have started to open their buds then it's probably best to get out there this weekend (tonight if poss!) and fleece them up. It''s going to be cold and frosty (with a chance of snow) over the next 5-7 days.
