shoeshine
I thought about placing this topic on the Writing Group, as an example of how to write a piece of withering invective in a newspaper article. I believe it is better placed here. I know political subjects are not generally popular on SF, with the exceptions of the usual, much used and abused subject content we are all familiar with now. I ask those of you who seek to wander off topic here, "Please remember this topic is not concerned with the two people at which the written piece is aimed, but seeks your comment on the quality of the written article!" Personally I consider it to be the best journalistic article I have ever read in the last 50 years of taking an interest in politics (per se) and reading newspapers. Matthew Norman in today's Independent Online If you normally can't be bothered to read newspapers in general please make an exception in this case. Oh! to be able to write like that! JoeP
Good journalism is hard to find these days - I liked this piece, even though The Independant isn't my usual 'tipple'. I suppose in these times of rolling TV news and Internet media the well turned phrase isn't soemthing that shows up frequently, but this I like. shoeshine
A damn fine read. I'm not sure if you are referring to my link, El-Mariachi, or that of Angle20's post. I presume it is in response to the opening post and its link on here though. I found it an extremely vituperative piece of writing, and a way unmistakeably expressed which really summarises what we here in the UK, and others worldwide would love to have written. Greybeard
"Please remember this topic is not concerned with the two people at which the written piece is aimed, 8<---snip Oh! to be able to write like that! Shouldn't that be "the two people at whom the written piece is aimed" ? Otherwise it's a fine piece of writing. And so is Matthew Norman's article.
