artisan
Bit of a generalisation there. I'd be more than happy if crew were as polite and hard working as me and I'm English. Why are Asian crew supposedly more hard working? I bet it's just that you don't understand when an asian person is either being rude or quite simply having a bad day. I know because they were my crewmen. Motivating European crew is not easy, they are on board for the ride, like everyone else. With the Pakistanis it was much easier. They took orders from their Serang. If you had him as a friend, he did the motivation for you. Usually by the toe of his boot. In those days his word was law among the crew, as engineer officer, if I told him something needed to be done, he made sure his men did it, no mistake. Very rare was punishment required. With white crew ships, loggings and discipline were needed nearly every other day.
