Half price meals - Hi Life anyone?

I have one for the North West, cost me £60 to join, I think I must have saved that back in the first month. If you eat out at least once a month, you are guaranteed to get your money back and a little extra over the course of the year. Also don't think the Yorkshire one is £60 think its a little cheaper.

Anyway I don't know what restaurants in Sheff accept it, but you can find that out from the website, but if its half as good as the ones in Manchester, then I would highly reccomend.

I got one last month as they were doing a free trial.

Not actually used it yet but most of the places in the guide excluded fridays and week ends plus you had to ring in advance of going to tell them you would be using a hilife card (which cynical me thought would give them the chance to say they were fully booked!).

The back of the card also has lots of numbered squares - the restaurant is supposed to fill in their number when you have been . i.e. you can only use it once at each place.

Whether they actually bother I dont know.

If you eat out in the week then definitely worthwhile.

Most places do cross the number off the back. Restaurants use it as a way to promote the place, they lose money (especially if the courses are buy one get one free) everytime somebody comes in and uses them, but do so in the hope that people will come back. From my experience this rarely happens, as people tend to just move on to the next place they can get a cheaper meal at!

The reasons Friday & Saturday nights are often excluded is because faced with the choice of turning away a table paying full price because of a hi-life reservation where you lose money, it's better to exclude it completely than ring people up and say 'sorry, but you aren't paying as much as table x, we're cancelling your reservation'. On a weeknight it's a different kettle of fish!

From a customer point of view, if you eat out a fair bit it's worth the membership fee. There's quite a few places in Sheffield that offer it (boho, Wig& Pen, Nonna's, Nando's etc) and most of them offer buy one get one free on each course. It can save you money, and it's well run and quite professional!
