Maggie1900
Thanks to everyone who gave me advice last week on how to get rid of viruses, I am now having trouble trying to get my computer to run at normal speed. I have removed all unecessary files, scanned using Norton and AVG, defragmented my disk, hit the computer with a big stick and sworn at it, but it is still running slow! I don't have any knowledge of the workings of computers, so if you can give me some advice in plain English I will be really grateful. Thanks, Maggie. melthebell
im afraid its not a donkey so hitting it with a big stick wont help sure thats not the speed it runs at anyway? you used start / run / msconfig and stopped any programs you dont need running at start up? maybe theres still spyware thats not been found? how much ram (memory) do you have? (right click my computer)
Maggie1900
Thanks melthebel, Will give those a try, how can I find if there is any more spyware even when I have scanned with Norton or AGV? If you can let me know I will have a go at it tonight when I get in. Thanks, Maggie.
melthebell
one good way to find spyware, spybot search and destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html avg doesnt find spyware, only (mostly) viruses and nortons useless (almost)
Ally68
If you are using AVG then you don't need Norton surely . It's probably already been suggested but ccleaner is great.
