Gladys_Pym
Hi. Where I used to live, in Oxford, there was a women only taxi service. I know Sheff is much MUCH bigger, and that there would surely be a market, so has anyone thought about this? Just asking. S

Ballbag
Women drivers and women only passengers do you mean? Sounds like a good idea - don't know how you'd reinforce it though, think of all those student fancy dress parties with blokes dressed in drag - where would they fit in! Bolero
It would be an absolute bloody nightmare. "No, second left, hang on a minute or was it right? Turn round a minute, I'm sure it was that one back there" "Wait a second, I've stalled it" "Do you mind if I just use this mirror thing for a minute"
LombardLady
Women drivers and women only passengers do you mean? How long would it survive before some guy sued for discrimination and forced the company to accept male employees and customers? Come to that, would it even have to wait for some guy to sue? Wouldn't the council refuse point blank to give them cabbie licenses because they're operating an illegal business?

S I think it's a fab idea - not saying that women only in the back, but no unaccompanied men? Ie men can get in, but only if they're with a woman? Some friends of mine <due to personal experiences> refuse point blank to catch taxis <even registered ones that you need to book> and would prefer to use public transport. I think it's a good idea! Bilge
Wasn't 'Carry on Cabbie' about this? One of the black and white ones. 'Glam Cabs' was the firm - possibly run by Joan Sims or Diana Dors. Can't remember the plot.
