Mr Goose
This came through our news wire service.... "Bus fares are going up in S Yorks as First says they’ll announce the details of the increase this afternoon .. figs leaked to the Lib Dems on Sheffield C’cil reveal some fares will increase by 15% .. First say the fare increases will come into effect next yr & that means the company has kept its promise not to increase fare in 2006 (BBC Radio Sheffield 0800)" BUT I thought the last lot of increases were justifed by fuel price rises - since then fuel has gone DOWN
JoeP
Naughty.... And that 15% will no doubt make up for the extra revenue they would have made by increasing them this year anyway.
Heyesey
Since when did a private company have to *justify* what it charges? If they overcharge, people won't use them, they won't make any money, they'll have to cut charges. Problem solves itself.
slimsid2000
Lets hope Stagecoach take this opportunity to register on a lot more routes and undercut them. If they did we would soon see First dropping their prices.
Mini_Cooper
Ah the joys of Public Transport. Let me think, the next time I go to Tescos, 2.5 miles away. 2 buses one way = 1.75 * 2 = £3.50 one way......... £7.00 return...... erm...... a journey of two hours there and back....... and having to sit next to some stinkers and swearers. Oh bugger it, I'll use the car at a cost of about .50p in petrol

Alex C.
And you'd be a bit silly not to buy a £3.50 dayrider. Is there any reason you have a vendetta against public transport?
the_mandarin
I have stopped using the First buses since the last 6 months. I get a Supertram monthly pass now. For 35 quid a month, I can use the tram and the Stagecoach buses. But I wish the Stagecoach buses would run late into the nights though! Most of them stop plying after 8.00 pm

But what about the great unwashed? Perhaps First need to employ people (to stand at each bus stop) armed with some soap and a bucket full of warm water, to deal with the great unwashed, while they are at the bus stop before they get on the bus. Deal with the armpits, behind the ears, wash hands and face etc....
