simondjuk
Ive just received this on an email - surely it doesnt work, i mean how could it? When you put your pin in wrong, you get 3 attempts dont you then the machine keeps your card if its wrong on the 4th attempt. PIN NUMBER REVERSAL (GOOD TO KNOW) If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ATM machine, you can notify the police by entering your Pin # in reverse. For example if your pin number is 1234 then you would put in 4321. The ATM recognizes that your pin number is backwards from the ATM card you placed in the machine. The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to help you. This information was recently broadcasted on TV and it states that it is seldom used because people don't know it exists.

D2J
It's true in a way, put your pin in backwards and the bank robs you of the money that you wanted to take out making them the thief
slh73
False. Think about it for a minute. What would happen if your pin was, for example, 1221? Every time you put it in it would think you were entering it backwards and send for the police
martss
It does work, until you get to this bit "the police will be immediately dispatched to help you".
ChrisTodd
It is a nice idea, but even if it were true, if you were being held at knife or gun point would you be able to think clearly enough to put in your pin number backwards?
slh73
Like I said before, what happens if your pin number is one that reads the same backwards as it does forwards? Arrested for wasting police time every time you use a cashpoint?
cressida
and while you are waiting for no money to come out the robber loses patience - coshes you - and departs, leaving you to explain to possibly the police
