pinlock
Do you remember this service? Sheffield was one of the first places to recieve it. Unfortunately didn't last too long. I always thought it was a good idea but too ahead of its time. I mean, it would have made a brill 'wireless local area network'. ruthie~
yes i remember, the best thing for me was being able to have two different telephone numbers with two different rings on the one household phone. it was great for dodging calls from work!! up until last nov when we had an extension, we still had the dish on the side of the house. Wheezy
I found it a cheap and reliable service. probably why it went under! I've still got the oversized 50p piece aerial bolted to the side of my house
JoeP
I've seen the aerials still on a few houses - was surprised in a way that it didn't take off. It was a bit like 'Rabbit' (I think) - an idea that was too early!

I tried to subscribe but couldn't receive the service where I lived. Shame that it failed really but I believe that was down to the short sighted and inward looking banks who pulled the plug on the finances. Interesting to note that, no sooner had Ionica gone belly up, BT brought out this amazing new idea whereby you could have two different numbers with different rings on the one line. Just a coincidence that this particular innovation was first available through Ionica.
*_ash_*
My mate worked for them, installing them, but it was something like £1300 to install per household. (parts, fitting, labour) Basic maths can work out that this just wasn't feasible without mass funding, and although I was told (by me mate) that it was really good, I think it may have been slightly before its time, if you know what I mean. ash
