carcrash
Can you buy very long usb cables of around 10 metres and would there be any problems with data lag like you get with long midi cables. I want to run a cable from my mac which is in an upstairs office where my internet connection is to my lounge.
Meaks
No you can't - USB cables won't work over about 5m. You CAN get 'active' repeater extension cables that boost the signal so you can extend them over distance. If its a really long distance you can also get CAT 5 extenders. Will see if I can find them and post a link.
melthebell
what do you want to do with em? you connecting 2 computer s together? or want to connect one to the phone line in another room?
Meaks
This gives you a 5m active extension, so you could just add another standard 5m cable (or you can link them together up to 25m). Alternatively this will extend up to 50m, you will need a network cable running in between.
JoeP
I'd go for a wireless network connection. I don't think that the USB cable connection would be good news here.

Skatiechik
I would just go for wireless if you want networking. Cheap enough nowadays.
carcrash
It's only for a one off night, i've got a video projector and i want to show streaming video from the internet. My cable box is upstairs but the cable is pinned every couple of inches and goes through walls, floorboards and a shelving unit so using that is not really an option.
