Clairy
I have just heard that the Brincliffe Oaks will be closing its doors for good in January! I haven't been a regular in there for a wile, but we still like to pop in every now and then. I mispent a large proportion of my youth in this pub and have some really fond memories..now it looks like it'll eventually become flats. Do you think there is anything that can be done? Fudbeer
Used to go in the "brinks" years ago when they had those sewing machine type tables was a great pub then. Went in a few years ago and it was rank.
chrisp7091
That is sad. I used to live in a flat at the top of the hill, on Brincliffe Edge so it was just 5 mins walk to the pub. That was in the early 90's. It used to be very popular back then, but it does seem to have deteriorated more recently. All the pubs round there seem to have gone downhill - The Byron looks well dodgy. Dunno what its like inside these days. Why are the breweries going out of their way to make these places look so unnattractive?. Ah well - another slice of my youth has just gone out the window. I think I really started to feel like that when 'The Hornblower' shut. I'm begining to feel like a foreigner in my own city!. Must be getting old !. Clairy
I agree it went way downhill from what it was like in the 90's, but still ok for a good game of pool and a few drinks. Perhaps I am being a little too nostalgic.

Ousetunes
This is bath sad and shameful. I used to go to the 'Brincs' with my mum and grandparents in the early eighties (indeed we 'saw in' 1982 over New Year in the pub's Blue Room), spent Christmas Day 1982 upstairs in the large function room and spent many a summer's day sat on the terrace (all beef sandwiches and Adam And The Ants' Goody Two Shoes). That was when it was run by Mike and Pauline who moved to Leicester c 1983. The pub had its own tropical pond and was otherwise a real local pub. A Barber Shop Quartet used to call round every now and then. The place was buzzing. It then went all strange, turning into a theme pub (whatever that meant), as did the Plough at Sandygate and no doubt many others. The windows were covered in a red sheeting which meant you could hardly see anyone. Still, to the best of my memory, it remained a popular pub. I think its next refurb was around 1987 turning back into a traditional pub - Whitbreads Trophy Best. In the 1990s it seemed to proclaim to being a sports pub with pool and live sport on TV. During this time it was usually packed out with the young crowd particularly on Sundays with groups of guys returning from Sunday League football matches. It was lively and we used to go for the pinball machines. It was great. But since then? I'm very sad if the news is true but I'm certainly not surprised. It stands in large grounds, absolutely ripe for 'luxury flats'. No doubt Lord Byron, round the corner, is looking on nervously....,

Carborundum
Whats so dodgy about the Byron? Top pub and better than Brinx! Yes the Byron is a great pub - run by a very able landlord long may it stay .. .. I'm not the most regular of regulars but I like the fact that it is near and also like the Broadfield ... shame about the Brincliffe but it always struck me as a very large rambling pub where its difficult to create an "atmosphere" because of its size ... the best time I had in there was a few years ago for New years eve with live dj - it was packed then of course .... also liked the jukebox but was turned down too low in favour of banal sky sports tv .... Its a shame if this pub is being turned into flats .. I can see why the greedy property investors would want it with its large land footprint and the offer must be irresistable ot the owners ... but I do hope that the character of Nether Edge is'nt being gradually destroyed with more and more blocks of flats and the accompanying more cars, congestion etc. - the Brincliffe has some long history .. it was once the centre of a main farm in nether edge i believe !
