Becca_lu
The NHS can only do so much. The NHS has limited funds. We are lucky in Britain, having a National Health Service. In other lands people have to pay for all medical services. I would accept that some people have psychosis which leads to eating disorders. Unfortunately the NHS cannot cope with all the real illnesses, diseases, safe births and accidents, and it seems that almost everyday someone 'invents' a new psychosis for the NHS to find the funds to cure. funny how they manage to find funds for anorexics, smack-heads, smokers, alcoholics, basically every addiction going but sod the fatties its their own fault. addiction is addiction, an anorexic has the same choice to not eat anything as an overweight person does eating another doughnut. I agree, "real" diseases, births accidents etc should definitley take priority, but IMO, smokers are more irresponsible than overeaters and smoking isn't linked to mental illness as far as i know, yet my surgery is flooded with expensive posters offering help to them on the NHS. Andy_28
Im not arguing the financial side of the NHS however I personally dont believe over eating is a disease, at least not to the scale of what you see from walking around town. Yes some people have a real problem, and for them I truly sympathise, but the real problem is fast-junk food eating and cars. I used to work in a corner-shop style supermarket for several years while studying, and it was funny to see the foods people bought. The fatness I saw was nothing to do with metabolism or the person, its the cake they bought.

The NHS works miracles helping back to health people with all sorts of ailments. Just think how much more it could do with out the burden of these self inflicted problems that humans bring on themselves. I am not just saying that the people who cram too much scran are a burden man. There is also… 1. Smokers = cancers, lung and skin ailments Plus the health problems smokers cause to others. 2. Irresponsible drinkers/ drug users Plus drink/drug driving accidents deaths maiming. 3. Irresponsible sun bather’s cancers etc. I am sure that there are other self inflicted ailments/problems, but if people took more sensible responsibility for themselves and those around them the NHS could spend more resources on eradicating illness and hospital germs. cressida
it doesn't help with all the TV adverts for food, people sometimes go in the kitchen to avoid watching them, and what about all the cooking programmes on TV, HARD TO AVOID
mifsit
As an ex fattie I can assure everyone that the only way to loose weight sensibly is with a healthy diet and exercise. Yes I still have a fry up breakfast, drink beer and eat chocolate but in sensible proportions and make sure I work it all off. I've gone from Obese to a healthy weight in 9 months. heeleygirl
Has anyone else noticed that people generally are getting bigger?, there seems to be a lack of healthy looking people around, I am no Kate Moss but I have been amazed by the amount of BIG people around recently? What is happening? Does the ratio of fat people have anything to do with how many Greggs shops there are in a city ?
