carmencarter
what annoys me is that in schools teachers are expected to promote healthy eating in PSHE lessons, but what happens next? The kids are queing for pizzas, chips, hamburgers and sugary drinks. I know things have improved a little bit with Jamie Oliver's programme, but in one school I've been it what they called improvement was this: One day a week without chips ( meaning that there's still pizza on the menu)...shouldn't it be one day a week when they can have chips? If teenagers are growing up eating and drinking that kind of rubbish every day, in a place where everything is supposed to be for their own good, how are they supposed to learn that you need five a day? I know full well that what they eat at home is important, but if healthy food is not promoted at school then it's undermining the parents'efforts surely? Becca_lu
another factor maybe that fat people get absolutely no help whatsoever with their eating disorder and mental problems from the NHS, are still an acceptable group to bully and abuse freely and so the cycle continues as they eat to comfort themselves and their problems. it annoys me so much, anorexics its oh poor them look how thin they are lets help them and get them into rehab before they starve to death from their "illness". Overeaters, its oh fat so and so's, should eat less pies or eat more so they die.
Whatif wewin
All the dietary experts say "eat healthily and exercise properly' Any one who is overweight is not doing so. People always want an excuse, a way to blame someone or something else. They are simply not able to accept it is their own fault.

In other lands people have to pay for all medical services. I would accept that some people have psychosis which leads to eating disorders. Unfortunately the NHS cannot cope with all the real illnesses, diseases, safe births and accidents, and it seems that almost everyday someone 'invents' a new psychosis for the NHS to find the funds to cure. purdyamos
another factor maybe that fat people get absolutely no help whatsoever with their eating disorder and mental problems from the NHS, are still an acceptable group to bully and abuse freely and so the cycle continues as they eat to comfort themselves and their problems. it annoys me so much, anorexics its oh poor them look how thin they are lets help them and get them into rehab before they starve to death from their "illness". Overeaters, its oh fat so and so's, should eat less pies or eat more so they die. Most fat people are fat because they prefer to eat too much of the wrong sort of food. For the vast majority it is not a mental illness and to imply so is an insult to those who really do suffer from psychological disorders. Most obese people could very easily afford to eat healthier food, but they choose not to. They choose not to walk or cycle or jog or go to the leisure centre etc etc. They choose to eat a greggs pasty rather than some fruit, or eat dairy ice cream instead of yoghurt. If they wanted to find the money to go to an aerobics class or whatever, most people could. But they don't want to. Staying reasonably fit and healthy is neither a luxury option nor hard work. It takes a bit of self-discipline and a decision to take responsibility for your lifestyle, getting into good habits and learning to treat yourself in moderation, not surfeit. I am on income support, I eat fresh proteins, complex carbohydrates, fresh fruit and vegetables, walk most places, hike once a week and swim at least twice a week. I also don't worry if I eat the odd cake or biscuit or pint of beer. I get very tired of hearing the excuses about poor fat people, because according to the hand wringers I should be a twenty stone victim, but I choose not to be. gonzesse
I agree that most fat people don't take responsibility for their weight. I used to work with a load of women and a couple of men who were always on some new diet or fad and moan how they didn't lose weight but they forgot all the biscuits and crisps and sugary drinks they ate all day long sitting on their backsides. The only way to lose weight is to eat less move more. Simple, if you don't then you will put weight on. There I've saved you all a fortune on diet books and other fads.
