Rich
PHPbb is pretty customisable, and is free... Apparently it's pretty hackable as well, so if you go with it (from here) be sure to make certain the firewall is up to date on your host's server. Invisionboard is another good free one, download it from here. Finally, forumup.com offers a free readily installed PHPbb forum that you have complete control over, my own forum was hosted by them, but it has now been deleted due to nobody posting on it, despite me placing a link to it in my sig on here
sccsux
Invisionboard is another good free one, download it from here. IVPB hasn't been free for over a year. The last free version was 1.3.1u (IMSMC}. but it has now been deleted due to nobody posting on it, despite me placing a link to it in my sig on here That's why you're better advised to buy a domain and some cheap hosting and set one up yourself:thumbsup:

JoeP
The new version of phpBB seems more robust than previous ones - I'm trying it out at the moment from a security point of view. Older versions were bloody awful.

Ann*
IVPB hasn't been free for over a year. The last free version was 1.3.1u (IMSMC}. InvisionFree is being upgraded to Zetaboards 2.0 or 2.1 some time in the not too distant (hopefully) future.
Rich
The new version of phpBB seems more robust than previous ones - I'm trying it out at the moment from a security point of view. Older versions were bloody awful. Only thing with PHPbb is that in teh control panel, only admins can use teh ban hammer, not Mods as well like VBullettin (this forum). I've run a couple of unsuccessful forums before, but I have been a Mod on a couple (yes Joe, I have Modding experience )
Guest
I think there is probably a mod for phpBB to allow moderators more access rights. phpBB is so unbelievably messy when you're trying to integrate it with a login for a site.
JoeP
I think there is probably a mod for phpBB to allow moderators more access rights. phpBB is so unbelievably messy when you're trying to integrate it with a login for a site. I'm actually furtling phpBB to use it in a couple of sites where I want some structured pots entry forms - different fields defined on a form - that also put soem data in a different set of tables, so for me personally the messiness of integrating the login isn't TOO horrible, as I have the lid up already. But yes, under normal circumstances it is a pain. Rich - your spelling of the word the is getting as bad as mine!
