Grahamfff
A friend has bought a second hand 4Gb iPod Mini and has asked me to set it up and load music onto it. When I plugged it into my PC, I got a message saying the PC had detected an iPod in recovery mode and needed to restore it. I did so and everything appears to be correct - the screen on the iPod shows the normal menus, and iTunes recongnises the iPod (e.g. it correctly displays its serial number, and the iPod shows in the source list on the left. However, I keep getting the message that the iPod needs to restored, so I'm going round in a loop. Any ideas?
defstef
Try this... However, without a unit to test this on, I can't remember whether it will erase any data on the iPod (primarily music files). In this case, you may need to connect the iPod in disk mode and back up the files manually to be safe (although anyone with an iPod could probably tell you for definite...) [edit:] It would appear that drive letter re-assignment is the cure...

I had to re-do the drive letters on both my ipods. ________ VEGA

victoriabrad
For some reason, Apple still sign 4.1 for 3GS and it allow us to downgrade 3GS to 4.1. However, because of baseband different, you will get 1015 error. So, just use tiny umbrella to kick it out of recovery at the end and it should bring the phone to normal boot. You should try following the instructions listed here: how to restore an iPod. First try and install the latest version of I tunes then open the program. You could be skipping a few steps in the process thus causing the problems registered in the system.

Not only have you reopened a 6 year old thread but also posted information completely irrelevant to it.
