bernz_23
This is going to sound really stupid, but I'll give it a try anyway. In Gleadless, so far as I can tell, there seems to be no community centre type places. All I could find is the library, which was shut, several churches and several pharmacists. Gleadless people, what kind of community things happen in your area? Do you have a community centre or a similar meeting point of any kind? I'm trying to find out about what goes on in the area for my uni work. So any clubs/campaigns/events etc that anyone can tell me about would be great. cgksheff
Where do you define as Gleadless? It doesn't seem like you looked very far. Tell us about your home area, and we might share a few secrets!
bernz_23
Hey cgk, well I was driving so admittedly it was a bit difficult to see everything, but I drove up from Heeley along Gleadless Road then down White Lane, peering down side streets etc as I went. In terms of defining the area... when I came out the other end and crossed the Derbyshire border, I turned back and it said 'City of Sheffield, Gleadless' on the sign, so I guess I was getting something right!! I'm going by the A-Z for what is and isn't Gleadless. It's a difficult business, trying to find out about an area you don't know, so anything helpful you could tell me would be most appreciated! veggie
I grew up in Gleadless. Theres isn't a Community Centre as such but theres the Scout Hut on Gleadless Road that has community fundraising events(they've just had a massive bonfire and firework display on Nov 5th) and theres a bowling club in the park off Ridgeway Road with a play group and other social events. If you want a real Community Centre theres one up at Frecheville with lots happening.

No disrespect, but if you are doing some kind of study about the community resources of a particular area, you may want to get out of the car and perhaps speak to some of the people who live there. bernz_23
you may want to get out of the car and perhaps speak to some of the people who live there. No disrespect to you either, but it was my first visit, and I did get out of the car for a bit of a walk, but I didn't want to get too lost and was short of time. I know there's people from all over the city on here so I just thought I'd ask what goes on in Gleadless for a starting point... it's harder than you think to speak to people in new places, I just thought this would be a better starting point than accosting people in the street! From what I saw of Gleadless it seems a nice place. And thanks everyone for your help so far, there seems to be a fair bit going on there!
sall242003
Gleadless is a very broad area with 3 sections. Theres Gleadless Town End which is where you drove, Gleadless Common and then up at the top there is Gleadless Valley. All 3 areas are very different so when you say Gleadless which part do you mean? One of the churches that you drove past on White Lane has lots of community activities such as a very popular Parent and Toddler Group.
