Spelling and grammar rant...

Recommended Posts

First of all I will admit now that my own spelling and grammar are not perfect and will concede that we all make mistakes, but..

I do find it somewhat irksome that a high proportion of those on here who are against immigration, and all for saving our unique heritage and language and who criticise the linguistic abilities of those immigrants who are here, do not seem to be able to write easily understandable sentences in their own language. i.e. English.

This is not because they are so intelligent that the sentences are complex in structure and hard to follow for some people, but because the sentences are so lacking in any structure, punctuation is noticeable by its almost complete absence and some words are spelt sufficiently badly as to alter the meaning of entire phrases. It is not a dig at the small minority who suffer from dyslexia.

(awaits comments for some grammatical mistake)

If those people (and I will not name names) really want to be proud of and preserve Britain's and England's language and heritage, they should at least attempt to write well in their own language.

As an example, one of the headteachers of a local primary school in my home city was of Indian origin and yet both spoke and wrote better quality English than the parents of English origin of the vast majority of her pupils.

As long as I understand the posters point, I'm really not bothered. If I don't understand, I'll just ask.

What I do find annoying is people who define themselves with a picture of a car. Please tell me it's not yours so I can stop torturing myself.

Thanks.

I have a night school class at Tapton School once a week.

Every time I go, I notice either a spelling mistake or a grammatical error in the homework instructions left on the whiteboard for the afternoon English class.

If the parents can't speak the lingo and the teachers can't speak the lingo, it's no wonder the kids can't :(

bit of a correlation we can spot here - in general the more bigotted the person and the stronger their nationalist tendencies, the worse their use of english tends to be

I shan't point out your errors, either grammatically, or in your spelling, in which case.

:hihi:

You are correct though. Those who purport to be 'English and proud' on this forum, tend to be those who have written English skills of a much lower level than those they wish to keep away ..........
