Draggletail
I saw a guy in the pub last night, in each ear lobe he had a sort of circular 'grommet' almost the size of a two pence piece (I imagine his lobes must have been greatly stretched to accommodate them) and they were hollow so that you could have put your fingers through his ears (Sorry I can't explain it better, hope you get the picture - it looked quite 'tribal' if you see what I mean) Have you seen anyone else with this? And do you have any views on body modification? (It's not for me by the way. Apart from one pierced ear with a stud)
D2J
I will never understand piercings I just don't see the idea of covering your body in metal objects, does that sound wrong of me?
medusa
What you're referring to is not that uncommon Draggletail- I know quite a few people with flesh tunnels or stretched piercings (including the tattooist that will be doing my next tattoo in a couple of weeks). Earlobes are (as far as I understand) the easiest piercings to stretch since there's no cartilage there- cartilage is really inelastic.
Ashcroft
ive seen holes much bigger on peoples ears.(i work with one) theres people with not much places left on their bodys to modify. no its not for me either:)
Kthebean
Yes my friend used to have them. You start with a small hole and then expand it. He could fit a clipper lighter through his which made me laugh - children used to stare and either run away crying or want to put their fingers through. I think body modification is really cool - anything that makes the world a bit more interesting and people more interesting to look at. Not for me though - you never know when you might decide you want to become a chartered accountant or whatever, plus it might look different as you get older, eh. Doesn't it suggest worrying insecurity and attention needs for the person who wants to abuse their body in such a way?

willdervish
That's nothing! I saw a series of pictures on the tinternet a while ago (will try to find them) of girl who had a sort of Oriental bamboo-type design carved into her back - literally strips of flesh being cut away so that it was 'scarred' into her back. It actually looked pretty cool, but also pretty bloody painful! For the record I have one tattoo and a nose piercing
munky
Doesn't it suggest worrying insecurity and attention needs . . . Well hello Mr Pot Hi there Mr Kettle. . Are you Black? Yes Mr Pot, I am indeed. . !! People to this for a multitude of reasons. They started small and digged it so much, they chose to do lots more. They enjoy pushin' their limits. They enjoy getting double takes when walkin' down the street. It's part of a look or stereotype they are trying to perpetuate. They just want to shock or scare others, often including their parents. Their mates do it and they're so lacking in identity that they do it too. And more reasons besides. .
