Don't try and help old people across the road anymore...!

This happened to a friend of mine the other day.

As my friend was walking to work down Eccy Road she saw an old lady who was wobbling across the road looking very unstable. My friend was in a hurry to get to work and considered walking on by until her conscience got the better of her and she went over to help the lady.

She said to the lady something along the lines of "come on love I'll give you a helping hand" and took her arm at the same time. The lady then turned around and shouted "Leave me alone" and punched my friend in the face!!

Obviously my friend then scarpered quickly, luckly not obtaining a black eye, just bent glasses and embarassement.

What made it worse is some people in the office saw and on her way through the office heard people laughing and talking about it.

Thought I'd share this story as it is very funny but also as a warning not to help these old ladies any more!! :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:

As an older person myself I find this disgusting behaviour.

Even if she didn't want the help she should have declined politely.

I would have had her for assualt and the cost of my glasses.

It's this type of nightmare oldies that give us all a bad press.

Oops! Hope you're friend is ok?

I know she was only trying to help, and there should be more people like that around but maybe the old lady didnt actually hear what you're friend had said and was frightened she was going to be mugged and punched her in self defence?

She might have thought the young lady was coming to hurt her. You old people get frightened quite easily don't you? So the old lady is allowed to be frightened of yoofs but not when some stranger comes out of nowhere saying something along the lines of " come on love I'll give you a helping hand". The old Lady could have been deaf and misheard or maybe she just wanted to keep her independence.

Covered it whilst typing.

Yeah she could have but as previously said if she didn't want a helping hand as wanted to keep her independence she didn't have to punch my friend. Who isn't actually a young lady is in her early 40's. Either way she shouldn't have really taken the action she did...

Well I'm an older person too but I still occasionally meet OLDER people that are a bit cantankerous.....

If I feel that somebody could have done with a bit of help, I think I would have just ASKED if they were alright or did they need a hand and stood back a bit.

If someone would have grabbed my arm I think I might have jumped a bit as well.

Not saying I would have bashed anybody but how do

you know what reaction you would have had.:hihi:
