ladyB
My 10 year old son is begging me to let him have a MSN account so he can chat to all his mates on-line, apparently it's what they are all doing at the moment. thing is I know nothing about them...and I have heard horror stories about who kids get chatting to on-line...can they choose who they talk to or can other people join in the chat? also can I monitor who he talks to or check out the content if I am worried? I want him to be able to do the same things as his friends but I am not sure if it is safe.... any tips would be gratefully appreciated.

Tess
Msn is one of the safest methods of chatting online avaliable at the moment. You can only talk to people if you add them or if they add you (you have to accept their invitation before they can talk to you) This way, you know who you are chatting to, and no weirdos will be bothering your son. Theres an add-on download called Msn Plus (i think thats what its called). this lets you log all the conversations made online. Ive had msn since i was about 11 /12 and ive never had any problems with it hope i helped x

spicey
I would say yes IF you are allowed to monitor who he has on his contact list but he may hate that. Otherwise no, its too easy for a random person to contact him and then for them both to start chatting.
AlBal
No i wouldn't let mine either. I just wouldn't feel comfortable with it. I know its MSN and you can only talk to people who you allow, but if he has access to the Internet all i would think of is if they go into a chat room they could be chatting with a peadophile, and that terrifies me! TheBlueDragon
At the youth centre I work at loads oof kids have there own MSN account. As said above they should be OK as long as you tell them to only add people they know
JoeP
Take a look at this : http://www.msn.co.uk/youngpeoplesafeonline/Default.asp?MSPSA=1 You know your child better than any of us - perhaps having a look here will help you decide.
cgksheff
oh dear ! may I ask why? Just my irrational opinion. When my first-born reaches that age and has the same requests, I'm sure that I will be forced to adjust my views.
