Mantaspook   14 #37 Posted November 24, 2006 Jodyh86 -there was a case a few years ago when trading standards entrapped a newsagent for selling cigarettes to a 15 year old, I believe they lost the case because the kid was almost 6’ tall and would it was reasonably assumed that he could pass for an older person.  If you decide to fight the case your employer should tell them you are going to use CCTV footage to support your assertion that the kid looked older, also request photographs of the kid from them or insist that he returns to the shop so you can photograph him for evidence.  Get your employer to inform them that you’re going to raise the matter in the trade papers and if fined, inform them that all scratch cards and lottery ticket sales will be suspended from the shop.  Let us know how you get on. tinkabel   11 #39 Posted November 27, 2006 I'm 21 and i get id'd for cigarettes all the time, i have to chuckle in my local supermarket though, bless them, most of them are shall we say a little dumb and i go to the cigarette kiosk after doing my weekly shop, i order my usual 3 lucky dips and pay, then i order cigarettes from the same person and get id'd, always makes me chuckle i have never actually mentioned that you have to be 16 to buy either of them!!  Although its day 1 today of no smoking so no more weekly order!! Shazbat   10 #41 Posted November 27, 2006 Its a pain but we have to do something simialir in my job (call centre) where we have to ask security questions to prove that the person speaking is the acc holder. Its daft when an old woman rings to to something minor to the acc and its obviously her, we still have to go through loads of questions but its a necessary evil to protect us and you. Asking someone for id just protects you from the law that is there to protect them! us being the poor slave driven workers and them being the unsympathetic public lol  What really bugs me in this situation, is that when you get passed from pillar to post around a call centre (O2 being the one in question), you have to ID yourself to every person you speak to. I'm already paying over the odds for the "national rate" (my @rse) phone call, all they're doing is costing me more money by keeping me on the line longer .... Duffer   10 #42 Posted November 27, 2006 If you call 150 from your line it will put you through to them free of charge but yes i do know what you mean it sometimes feels like overkill, but its better to be safe than sorry as they say and the alternative may be that any random person could access your account and make any changes they wanted to... Then people would be really complaining!!!!
 Share this content via...
