bladesufc1
If I’ve sent my passport to Barclays bank so that they can open an account in my name, but they state they have sent my passport back... even though I still don’t have it, if I open a complaint with them and they close it by saying that they have returned it back in august NFA is this legal? With all the data protection laws, as somebody could be using my passport and it would be there fault!
Agent Orange
Ask them to prove that they have sent it back. I'm guessing that they would send important docs back via recorded/special delivery and if that's the case then they should be able to give you the unique delivery number which you can then check with royal mail. Thing is, passports are valuable items and are sought after and it could be the mail was intercepted and your passport stolen. You need to get them to resolve this asap so that you can report the loss to the police and the passport agency and then maybe you can claim compensation from either royal mail/bank for the loss and the cost of replacing your passport. Good luck!!!!
foxycoxy
I dont know much about the law surrounding this - but in my job we usually send sensitive documents like this back via recorded delivery. I would have thought that the bank should have done this. If they didn't then its pretty poor on their part seeing as a passport is quite valuable to anyone who wants to commit fraud. I know send it recorded delivery might not have stopped it being stolen, but at least there would be a record or where it had been. Have you asked Barclays this? Do they send them back via courier or Royal Mail? sorry posted at the same time as Dick Dastardly!!
9xyg32
Dont advise you to sit around on this. Strongly recommend you report loss/theft to the police, inform them you sent it to Barclays for the reasons stated and are still waiting to receive it. Agent Orange
They have confirmed it was sent back 2nd class post!! That's absolutely disgusting. They should have sent something of such improtance back to you by recorded/special delivery. They obviously value the customer in this case. I would report it asap to both the police and paasport peeps and then make a complaint to the bank and seek advice from royal mail regarding claiming for the lost passport. medusa
That's ridiculous! I'd do my very best to hold them responsible for the cost of replacing your lost passport at the very least (and I'd both raise a formal complaint and report it to the police). Passports are sensitive documents- for them to not treat them as such dreadful.
Heyesey
They have confirmed it was sent back 2nd class post!! For that alone, I'd tell them not to bother opening the account; if they treat something as vital as a passport so badly and with so little regard to security, what the hell are they going to do with something more trivial like money? 9xyg32
Also report it to the Information Commissioner and enclose a COPY (keep the original stored in a safe place) of Barclay's letter with your complasint. They're getting really hot on these financial institutions for cavaliare mishandling of personal data. Banks statements and all sorts have been found in black plastic bin lkiners on the streets.
