Halibut
http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/crime/article2005163.ece How refreshing to see a senior Police officer suggesting a really practical and hopefully effective means of reducing drug related crime. A report on the pilot scheme covering 300-400 offenders is due next month and is likely to show a huge reduction in offending behaviour amongst those prescribed their fix. It would be nice to think that such a scheme would add some serious weight behind the debate about the way forward in tackling the social problems related to addiction. I hope it might swing the balance away from current policy which is clearly failing all of us, users and non - users alike.
Jabberwocky
Well most crimes that are committed do seem to be connected to drugs. I bet a hundred people will reply to this post and strongly disagree though.

If the report on the pilot scheme shows a highly significant drop in offending rates (as I believe it's very likely to do) it'll be interesting to see what people find to disagree about.... Don_Kiddick
yes with any luck they'll be able to afford to OD a lot quicker than normal now The saving to the taxpayer will be increadible - especially if the losers have a family to pay the funeral costs

No breast cancer drugs for sufferers in certain areas, and no Alzeimer drugs that would stop the progress of the disease.
Kelliinlove
i think the main thing that people will argue is "i pay for this to happen blah blah blah" in the end yeah, make them OD faster...bye bye addicts see you on the other side

It won't make users OD - it's taken under supervision. I suppose you've never had anyone that you love have their lives touched by addiction or the crime that feeds it judging by that response Kelliilove? I would like them all to have a nice pure uncut heroin fix, then the next one wouldn't be something which they ever had to think about. It would serve exactly the same purpose as what has been proposed, in terms of reducing the rate of offending, but would be of greater good to the community in general, insofar as it wouldn't cause any financial burden to the NHS. Just a cheap wooden box would be all it cost the taxpayer and that is the best place for junkies.
