Oddgitt   10 #42 Posted November 2, 2009 wots best bait n best places for pike on canal???  I've been looking into this myself. Seems like using a dead sprat is a good start. You can either wobble this or 'pop' it up using some poppers or stuff it with poly-styrene.  Apparantly the area near tinsely is good for pike and perch.  Can anyone clarify what/where the 'plumpers' stretch is, and where you buy day tickets for it? Grandad.Malky   11 #43 Posted November 3, 2009 (edited) Can anyone clarify what/where the 'plumpers' stretch is, and where you buy day tickets for it?  I know nothing about fishing but the plumpers was a pub on Tinsley roundabout, when that closed it became a golf shop but I am not sure if that’s still the case. spankysufc   10 #45 Posted November 27, 2009 the plumpers stretch is the stretch just after the lochs at tinsley going away from sheffield town centre all way down to holmes loch in rotherham i think also they have a couple of the lochs on there book but dont quote me on that. spankysufc   10 #46 Posted November 27, 2009 also some very nice pike down at bernard road behind the incinerator with wobbled sprat or deadbaits in the margins or far bank where the lillies were. from jacks upto upper doubles, heard stories of twenty pounders but never actually seen one biggest ive seen was 18lb and full of spawn at the time, was also followed into the net by a little jack pike!! charliewag   19 #47 Posted November 28, 2009 the plumpers stretch of the canal is season ticket only. the rest of the canal from tinsley basins to the city centre is free fishing, the clubs that leased sections have either folded or not renewed the lease. it's not fishing great for pike at the moment.i've only had 2 jacks in my last 4 visits.
