If you want to catch decent pike you really need to go to wales and fish on one of the many trout resevoir's or go on badshot lea, down south. Pike into the mid 30's, cats over 50 and carp to well into the late 30's.

Bardney locks is i good place, fish as close to lock as possible a few years ago had 6 fish averaging 18 pound each actualy run out of bait

You can spin with lures for both perch and pike - I've had a couple of bites on these but couple get them in

 

You can dead bait with mackeral/sprats/sardines or anything oily for pike.

 

Worms seem to be the best for perch.

 

I might sound like I know what I'm on about, to date I've only caught a barbel. ONE fish!! Perhaps I need a mentor...

 

But you'll see me out at Damflask this winter having a go!

Your doing well Oddgitt if your a newcomer to fishing and the only fish you've caught so far is a Barbel.I started fishing at the age of ten and waited another fourteen years before I caught my first Barbel.
