Olemorris
Waterstones eh! Time was you could go have a coffee and read the papers gratis. Coffe 'n' cakes were pricey - but fair enough for a free read and comfy seat. Now they've only got one paper, Daily Telegraph, and you gotta buy it! Woman on the till said it was a new directive .... Coffee's still pricey, so Waterstones manage stingy and a blow to press freedom in one. Boycott or to the barricades? ....

Olemorris
do they have a cafe then?
Hook
I'd assume it's Costa Coffee that sent out the directive rather than Waterstones, since they are the company who run the coffee shop inside Waterstones.

Funky_Gibbon
I'd prefer it if they got rid of the cafe and put some books in there.
purdyamos
When they brought in the cafes in bookshops I imagined lolling on sofas, browsing books over a pseudo-stylish coffee. Or at least using the cafe as an in-house intellectual oasis. Paying for papers? Excuse me? Why are they there? Now they just sound like cheeky interlopers. Give us back our bookish floorspace!
