Any good tips for remembering?

I have just had a frantic half hour. Went in my local supermarket, did my shopping, went to till to pay and discovered to my horror that my debit card wasn't in my purse...I last used it yesterday.

I saw a supervisor who checked the two till stations for me and there it was in the second one.....

Well I nearly cried with relief but now I'm thinking....as this is the second time it's happened, does anyone have any good tips for remembering to make sure you have your card when leaving the till please:help:

Nothing fool proof Joan but when I'm out I take my wallet.

When I use my wallet to pay for anything, before I close it, I always check my 3 cards are in the place I reserve for them.

When in supermarkets for instance, its easy to get cards, cash, receipts etc in a muddle and put them in a pocket for the time being. I have occasionally lapsed in the past but now, it is an automatic obsession to check 3 cards before closing wallet.

I'd be snookered with a purse though. My wife has a small wallet used just for her debit/credit cards and tries to adopt the same procedure as I do.

It's important to be on the ball whenever you're dealing with another person and money is involved (cash / debit card etc).

A good tip, is to not make eye contact with the other person; that way you don't get distracted by what they (or anyone else) is doing.

Keep your focus and attention on exactly what you are doing. Always check your change, shop keepers do make mistakes. NEVER be embaressed to stand there and count your change.

Sometimes it's when they do it different. Like I'm pretty sure yesterday I gave the card and they swiped it, then I put my number in....where as other times, the card is put in to bit where you do the number...

Then it was like mikeG says, reciept, nectar card and cash back.....

Also as think says about the eye contact...yes there was that as well as a joke or two....arghhh

I might try the writing on the back of the hand....perhaps just a huge "question mark"

Arghhhh why can't they just bring back cash.....:suspect: (only joking of course)

Talkiing about swiping your cards, at the supermarket the other day I swiped my card, it said card didn't regiser, meaning the black line wasn't reading, the teller handed me a plastic bag, said put the card in here and swipe again with the card inside the bag, it worked  must be a common occurance as the teller seemd use to it happening.

I have often done that when a customers card won't swipe.

These days it's nearly all chip and pin and the cashier shouldn't handle the card at anytime except as a cheque guarantee.

It's just being on the ball, in control of yourself and the situation.

I think a lot of time in busy shops at checkout, they want to hurry you along ASAP, so they can 'process' the next customer. You should never let yourself be rushed, you take your own sweet time, smile, and go just as slowly and calmly as you like. It's fine if the checkout girls get their knickers in a twist, sod em, it's your cash we're talking about!

Better still, if you can 'appear' a little befuddled and in need of some help, it keeps the checkout person off guard and distracted (trying to 'help' you), and keeps you in control.
