medusa
I personally wouldn't ever use a service where I didn't get to have a proper fitting with someone I trust- my prescription is high enough that a couple of millimetres' change in the distance from my eye is enough to make me lose focus. (I'm -12 in both eyes with astigmatism).
northernboy
I also used Glasses Direct and found the service and the quality of the glasses to be excellent. However mine is a relatively mild prescription and I only really use them as a spare pair - I'd echo the comments about having specs fitted "properly". thecyclist
I,ve used spex4less and purchased 3 sets of specs from them. All arrived within 3 days, all were perfect and all were about a qyarter of the cost of the shops. I will definitely use them again.
S8 Blade
ok.... a) How do you know what the frames look like when you put them on? b) How do you know they feel comfortable when you put them on? c) How do you know that the lenses and frames reach British Safety Standards (oh yes, they do exist on spectacles) d) How do you know that they are correct to your prescription? There are tolerances set by the General Optical Council for the make of spectacles... you might be able to see out of them (so you think) but then they might be too strong/weak for you.. but you'd never know. At least with a "high-street" opticians you know that they will have been properly checked by a professional - and you know that they fit & look good! chris52
Totally agree with you S8Blade, How would you check if they are made up to the correct prescription, what if when they arrive you cannot see through them. You would not know if the prescription you had sent was wrong or if the specs had been made wrong. I think get your sight test done and specs made at the same place, at least you have some comeback if things go wrong.
