ZEDEX48K
Thinking of getting my first MP3 player and I see Apple have introduced the new nano which features scratch resistant surface, better screen e.t.c. Has anyone got one of these new nanos, they look good and are small. http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore.woa/6724042/wa/PSLID?mco=70933483&nclm=iPodnano&wosid=ak4xulyIFtW62IWuUmF1YKRRrD4 Any info would be appreciated. Guest
I like my old nano except for the scratching. It plays stuff gaplessly as well which means if you rip say a live album, you don't have a stupid gap between tracks anymore I have rockbox installed on mine anyways. They are wonderfully small and you really don't appreciate how small until you see one in the flesh. Get it through the UK Apple store as you get free delivery and engraving
adlinds
I had the old iPod Nano but sat on the screen the other week, it cracked and would no longer display anything. I have since bought the 8 gig new Nano as a replacement and there isn't too much difference. It feels less likely to break which is good and the screen is a bit brighter (40% brighter apparently). The headphones are very slightly different and there is a search facility which I've never used. The main bonus of the new Nano is that the 8 gig version is the same price as the old 4 gig version. I use mine everyday and would definitely recommend it.
Thunzi
I've got the new 8GB Nano, its a really nice piece of kit. It's tiny, weighs absolutely nothing and the battery lasts over 2 days play. I'd recommend it. Not that fussed about Itunes though!
beeper
I've just got a clip-on iPod shuffle. It's a wonderful little thing - although of course it's only a question of time before I lose it down the back of the sofa or something.
sugarcube
anything that lets you aviod itunes should be welcomed regardless. fecking apple. get a standard player which takes sdcards and then your memeory can be upgraded at any time you fancy, can usually change batteries as they improve too. proprietary formats are bad news. devolute
I have rockbox installed on mine anyways... Rockbox looks awesome. I wouldn't think about buying an iPod without the possibility of Rockbox. It doesn't work on the new Nanos tho does it?
xircon
I found Rockbox problematic on my Ipod 30gb photo, took it off in the end - to quirky and it hung a lot.

Not entirely, the ipod is doing very well with proprietary format. I agree to some extent though everything should use open format but i love itunes i also love the fact it works on my work pc and my mac's. The ipods are great but there are other products close. Maybe its because its the whole bundle but i wouldnt buy anything else.
