Why do we work 5 days a week?

Recommended Posts

I reckon I could go one step further and work 37 hours in three days, yes they would be tiring days but the four day long weekend would be more than worth it! Only worry is would people start addidtional jobs as they would have more time on their hands, then we would work far too much...
I'd do that I've worked 16 and 18 days many a time. People have an option whether or not to work in additional jobs. I don't think there is such a thing as working too much if you feel so inclined, the problem is when you are forced to work too much which is a different issue.

I work 4 days a week. I work Monday Tuesday, have Wednesday off, then work Thursday and Friday and have Saturday and Sunday off.

It means I never work more than 2 days in a row and the break on Wednesday is great.

What job do you do, if you dont mind me enquiring? (read: being nosey)

I used to work 12hr shifts 4 on 4 off, the time off is great but you needed it, when you start work its work and bed for 4 days, no time for anything else.

I have worked every kind of rota pattern over the last 30 years and none are ideal, swings and roundabouts.

It never suits the bosses to have the grunts decide when they go to work, though. And despite the fact that flexible hours is likely to improve productivity in the workplace, they're generally against it because it means having to think.

Like that one.....how true.....we do it this way cos thats how we always did it!
