AndyK
A Child against all odds The BBC in South Yorkshire is offering you the chance to join in the debate about IVF, sperm and egg donations and the issues surrounding the subject. BBC Radio Sheffield’s Rony Robinson will be hosting a live radio debate about the issues on Friday 15th December at the Central library theatre in Sheffield between 12.45 and 3pm. On the panel taking part in the debate will be Dr Allan Pacey a Fertility expert based at Sheffield University, Clare Brown, The Chief executive of Infertility Network UK,Laura Witjens Chair of the National Gamete Donor Trust and Julie Maycock who’s ten year old daughter was conceived by Sperm donation. The audience will be given the chance to ask questions to the panel on the live programme and also off air from 2pm for an hour. The debate comes off the back of a new BBC One series ‘ A child against all odds’ hosted by Sheffield Hallam university’s vice chancellor Sir Robert Winston. During the programme he will follow the stories of a number of couples who are trying various methods to have a child. Some of the issues which will be covered in the debate include the removal of anonymity of sperm and egg donors in April 2005. Since then there has been a significant drop in the number of donors affecting many patients. The shortage of sperm donors has prompted fears that many will turn to the internet to find sperm donors. This practice cannot be regulated as legislation only affects sperm that has been frozen. How do we overcome this situation? Do children born through donor conception 'have a right' to know who the donor is? What does genetic relatedness mean in the context of sperm and egg donation? We are inviting you to come along and take part in the debate you will have chance to ask questions to the panel on the live programme and also off air from 2pm for an hour. If you would like to book a seat at the debate and ask a question call the BBC Radio Sheffield CSV action desk on 0114 267 54 44.

I recall a Prof Cooke at Jessops being very popular with this and many couples owing their offspring to his efforts - are you one of them?
