hiya, my nan just phoned me to tell me something for kiddies going off in town today. does anyone know what it is( ???lights???) what time it starts etc?

Yes its the switching on of the christmas lights starts at 5pm....

It's the Xmas lights switch on. Moor is being switched on at 3pm (in daylight ) and the rest at Barkers Pool at 5pm. Lots of other things going on for the kids.

to be honest thats whats puttin me off. there will probably be loads of teenage girls there and it will be a nightmare.

No, they are prevented from opening late by the Sunday trading laws.

Well actually the light switch on at the Moor is for the children at 3pm. This is a separate event for the kids and is an excellent idea in my opinion. Especially, for parents who don't want to wait around until 5pm in the cold with young children.

We took our girls down as the older one wanted to go see McFly, TBH they were ok, half a dozen songs for free is fine with me. Sorry to all those youngsters who couldn't get past because the little one wasn't as bothered & wanted to sit in her buggy.

 

Strange thing though, they switched the lights on in Barkers Pool where there were no lights, apart from the banner just outside GAP. Think Santa was on the Town Hall balcony & had the monopoly of them around there.
