Zaytsev
I.............. suppose we'll just have to wait and see though. Bit of an expensive gamble though
*_ash_*
Do you think anyone will pay upwards of £150,000 for an apartment in what will basically be ex council tarted up concrete tower blocks when their are private developments of modern apartments going up all over. Totally agree. ash
Guest Pauly
I'm working on them at the moment for the next 3-4 weeks ripping out radiators, sinks and pipework. The block I'm working in is going to be completely refurbished but a few of the other blocks are heading for demolition so I've been told. At the moment the majority of the flats we've been in have been empty for some time and have had pigeons nesting in them, drug addicts shooting up in them and the usual scroties trying to force their way in to nick whatever they can. There were a small trio of hoodie kids earlier today wandering around the parked cars looking in windows (and in our vans the little sods) but they soon buggered off when they realised they were being watched from the top floor. That said though you can imagine the state some of the flats are in at the moment, pigeon poo, used syringes etc. It's surprising what a rewire, replaster and redecorate will do though eh? As an afterthought the views of Sheffield from some of the flats are quite impressive and alot of them are a good size too. As far as I can gather, there will be some flats for social renting, but I don't know if they'll be kept by the council or be taken over by a housing association. A Manchester-based housing association is interested in buying the block we're working on. Mancs'll buy owt won't they.
kim69
MUFC_OK if you want the low down on whats going to happen with Park Hill, I suggest you contact Lorna Vertigan, in Strategic Initiatives, Neighbourhoods and Community Care Directorate at Sheffield City Council, PO Box 1918 Sheffield S1 2XX, phone 2734636 e-mail Lorna.Vertigan@sheffield.gov.uk. This is the department that is leading on the re-development. Yes Park Hill is a listed building, because it is built on a spring system foundation which was a trial foundation system and in its hay day attracted suits from all over the world, the system is now used in areas that are affected by earthquakes! never understood why they built it in sheffield we dont get that many quakes!!! isaidthat
Bit of an expensive gamble though It is do you know that £35million of our taxes are going on this revamp. Not bad that Urban splash get £35m of our money to make profit if they can sell off the flats once done. The plans are just artists impressions, like all of such impressions tarted up to make them look better than they will be.
woodmally
The flats are gonna be completely renovated (like never wrong said), by Urban Splash. you can see it on here: http://www.urbansplash.co.uk/us.php. Click on 'In the pipeline', then 'next', then it's under Sheffield. I think they've beeen moving people out for work to begin. People already have moved out. I live on Duke Street and walk that way to get my bus to work. All thats left at the moment is a burnt out car. If they do them up it will be great. Dark Moomin
http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/index.asp?pgid=67742 They will be 'mixed use, mixed tennancy' Basically, they will be social housing, probably thorugh a housing association I would imagine, with a proportion available for private sale. So some of the people moved out will come back, and others will stay elsewhere. I think the only hope somewhere like this has is to have a reasonable proportion of owner occupiers, however I can see that the flats on general sale will becoame private rented, so won't necessarily bring the area up that much at all. Zaytsev
.............The plans are just artists impressions, like all of such impressions tarted up to make them look better than they will be. If truth be told, plss poor impressions at that. If you look closely the actual exteriors remain basically the same ugly monstrosity it is a present only with Bertie Basset running up and down the 'streets in the sky'. Absolute. patronising. tripe.
