John
I've created databases, I use .htaccess and phpmyadmin works fine too?!?! We won't be running off the same server, so it seems like I was unlucky to be put onto something crap.
D2J
Having looked at everything I have pretty much decided to go for a Virtual Private Server with WebFusion Cheers all..
Rich
fasthosts is another great "cheap" hosting co. Grr! I used to chat on MSN with this guy called Carl who would never shut up telling me about how great fasthosts were! In the end I told him to sod off and deleted him from my contact list cos he was doing me ruddy head in.
s10sys
Having looked at everything I have pretty much decided to go for a Virtual Private Server with WebFusion Cheers all.. Before you opt for a VPS I suggest you read this thread:- http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=466618 I have a Lycos VDS which is roughly the same thing, I'm very unhappy with it to say the least! All Virtual Private/Dedicated Servers are open to the same problems, you can't effetively firewall the system due to virtual IP's and no access to a physical network interface makes security an impossibility unless you shut every port on the server! I've done everything possible on my VDS to secure it and although nobody will get into the server it doesn't stop them from trying, this then ties up resources as the network interface is virtual which contributes to a CPU overhead. If you do go for one of these types of packages expect outages and DOS attacks on an hourly basis. Hackers are aware that these VPS accounts are open to abuse and they will take advantage. For more complaints on VDS / VPS look at:- http://forum.lycos-vds.com/index.php?board=1.0 I've been looking into dedibox which is currently only available through a US reseller or to French residents, it does look like the answer though. D2J
Cheers s10sys, I shall avoid webfusion VPS having read that article and various others!! Maybe I should just buy my own server
s10sys
Co-locating your own server is possibly the best option, but it's still expensive. Wiredworkplace in Sheffield do co-located servers for an ok price, I've had very few problems with their services and support is good.
