SV500
hi all, last few weeks theres been a fair bit of work being done on the site, including the old garage on the corner being demolished, i see they'r burning some stuff and starting with the demolision of the old pub, i had a look earlier on today.. the shiregreen hotel wide shot the workmen there told me it'l be down by next wednesday, so if you want pics to remember the place then nows the time to go and get em, one of the workmen said to me he couldn't belive "a pub like this..on an estate like this..and its coming down..unbelivable" hmmm...wonder what they'l be putting up in its place ? JJ..

LHarman
spend most of my childhood pestering my dad out of the tap room where he sat and played dominoes with his mates asking if I could have a bag of crisps, sat on the wall for many an hour, went to the bonfires there, it used to be a nice pub, up to the eighties, then it all went downhill,so very sad to see it go.give it 6 months it will be pensioners flat. shihtzumad
I use to live bang across road from shiregreen pub, it was awful, wish they had knocked it down years ago. It was great when mick n ann had it, no trouble. It was horrible bringing your kidz up, with all goings on, fighting etc......glad we moved away. It will look funny with out it.. We lived on sicey for 9 years, and went in their once.
Jillybabes
I wonder what they will be building on the site then, probably flats as LHarman says. It is an ugly looking pub anyway, I wonder if they will knock down the Sicey Hotel too??

KJ_VENOM
well now if people fancy a pint in shiregreen we have a choice of going to the penguin (not if the beer was free and served in golden goblets) or do what i do go down town its terrible when estate pubs are closed down but when pubs like the afore mentioned penguin the shiregreen and the sicey become places where people wanting a nice pint in safe and secure surroundings then what can be done? AJ sheffield
Bloke who i know derrick had that pub up to last year i think.Didnt think it was due for demolition. Ahhh big Derek, he also had the Bowling Green too. I used to go drinking in the Shiregreen sometimes. It looked rough from the outside but Derek made sure any trouble was sorted quickly. I remember it being so cold in there once they threw all the furniture on the coal fire.
