Rozie
I went there and so did my younger brother and older sister. Our names's Marsden. I remember some teachers from the infant school: Miss Vick (Headteacher), Miss Blinckorn, Miss Geygon and Miss Clark (Headteacher of Juniors), Mr Strange, Mr Roberts (I think that was his name - he was a big chap who drove a bubble car), Miss White, Miss Heyward (scarey!). Does anyone have any memories of these teachers or anyone else. Also did anyone go on to Jordanthorpe Girls School. I was there from 1963 - 1968. Miss Prebble was Headteacher, there was Mrs Sellers, Mrs Bultler, Mrs Stannard taught French, Mr Granville (History), Mrs Mellor (wore bright red lipstick that went into two pointed peaks on her top lip - she was lovely), Mr Heath. Has anyone any memories of these schools or of Lowedges around this time?
homer2
I must have been there at the same time. There was another teacher called Mr Reid (pop). Always stuck his tongue in his cheek when he got angry. Remember during P.E. trying to get those bean bags to stay on those girders in the main hall. Also remember having to sing a hymn before dinner was served. A few names, Richard Hill, pete collins, ian ward, dave spooner, kevin strafford, Keith elsworth, gillian and julie milner, sharon havenhand, christine foster, susan walker, could go on all night. Rozie
I remember Mr Reid. I used to feel sorry for him 'cos everyone took the mickey but he was very strange. I don't remember any of the names you've mentioned I was probably in a different class. Names that come to mind are Susan Ogden, Christine Jepson, Lynda Slack, Brian Hill, Alan Ardron, Elizabeth Neil, Karen Hudson, Susan Hartley. gingernut
The school celebrated its 50th Anniversary last year and I together with 2 'old girls' visited them. We were among the first intake when it opened. I was in Mrs Woodgers class and then moved on to Mrs Stubbins in the infants. Miss Vick was the Head Mistress in the infants and Miss Clark in the juniors. I recall they always wore costumes (suits nowadays) and a string of beads. I thought the school hall was the biggest room I had ever seen but on our visit it turned out to be quite small..... sadly the infant's part of the school was demolished to make way for housing. In 1958 I moved on to the juniors to Mrs Tufnell's class. She was a great fan of corporal punishment and I can remember her putting a boy over her knee to smack him (wouldn't happen nowadays). She was quite old and really shouldn't have been teaching at all - no compassion or humour. Miss Daniels was next in the 2nd year and then Miss White in the 3rd. Miss White specialised in music and ran the recorder group. In the 4th was Mr Beeson - a tall gingerhaired chap who was very nice. Miss Hayward took us for sewing - she was quite strict. I always wanted to make a dress or something pretty to wear but we had to make tray cloths or handkerchief cases (Kleenex put paid to that)!! My first school trip was in 1960 - a visit to York - we saw everything and had fish and chips for lunch. By and large I enjoyed my time there...but 50 years ago....... I wonder where my life went?? Does anyone else have any memories?? Ginger

Rozie
Hi Paulus - I would be interested in a link to the photo. I started infants in 1957 so would have been in juniors 1959 - 1963 (I think) so I could well be on the photo or at least know some of the people on it.
