GraZ
To all those who are going to Tesco's to buy this printer, Please be aware it doesnt come with a printer to usb cable required for pc use, So you'll have to fork out acouple more quid for that too. I found this out when i finally got home, oh how they skanked me on that, no wonder its cheap
bensonhedges
Most printers don't come with a usb cable. Some don't even come with ink. It's how they keep the headline price down. Same sort of theory as the lowcost airlines - a bit deplorable really. We recently used Ryanair for the first time and had to pay for bags to go in the hold. Good for people who only have hand luggage but how many people go for a week in Spain with just hand luggage?
LL200
slightly off topic, but i'm all up for this "pay for what you use" attitude. its much more economical and environmentally friendly. if you dont take much luggage, then it costs the airlines less and you pay less. i like it. same goes for rubbish collection. lets start paying by weight (as long as it means that those who actually throw away less actually pay less than currently...). and to get slightly more on topic, i have printer cables and monitor cables and usb cables and gawd knows how many other cables coming out of my ears. so this would work well for me. alchresearch
Not really Tesco's fault, everywhere does it. Just be thankful you only had to pay a couple of quid for a cable and didn't get stung for a £15 Belkin USB cable that PC World try and fob onto you. never wrong
I think you should change the title of your thread wherever you but this printer it wont have a usb cable supplied and 99% percent of the printers you but dont come with the cable. even when you bought a printer years ago you had to buy the "parellel" cable nothing new in this but dont blame TESCO,S
Greybeard
How many years ago ? My first Deskjet bought in 1992 had a parallel cable included in the price and a spare ink cart Printer manufacturers these days are being silly about not including a USB cable, - in the quantities they could by them in the cost would be no more than a few pence. I bought five such cables from Ebuyer last year for 58p each when PC World were selling them for £14.99 And anyone looking at a Canon Pixma IP series printer should check the price of replacment cartridges, - 'compatibles' aren't available. Edit: USB cables available with free postage for £3.00 http://www.directusbstore.co.uk/cnb/shop/directusbstore?op=catalogue-products-null&prodCategoryID=
never wrong
IN 1992 they all came with cables but around 1996 they started not to supply and the excuse from the manufacters was that most people had got the cables from discarded printers so there was no need to include one. the same happend with USB cables and thats why they are not supplied now. and I have a IP SERIES PRINTER AND i REFILL mine and the compatible ones are approx £10 for four at most computer shops
alchresearch
Printer manufacturers these days are being silly about not including a USB cable, - in the quantities they could by them in the cost would be no more than a few pence. In days of old when printers were only parallel, I can understand a cable being supplied. But many printers nowadays have parallel, USB, network, and even bluetooth connectivity. Greybeard
Nevertheless, the majority of printers sold into the domestic market wil be inkjets with only USB connectivity. Network interfaced laser printers will be usually bought by business users. Paradoxically most stand-alone scanners sold into the domestic market do include a USB cable. I strongly suspect that the big retailers like PC World have pressured the printer manufacturers into not including a cable so they can sell the customer a 50p item for £14.99.
