xFix
ive had my budgie for 2 years now. got him from a breeder and he happened to be the runt but i felt sorry for him and had 2 have him. he couldn;t really fly when i got him, but that didn't bother me as i had a budgie previously that damaged his wing and so he spent time in my pocket or on my shoulder! but anyway.. this bird ive got now has blood feathers (the feather tubes full of blood and when he attempts to fly in his cage he catches them on perches and ends up bleeding pretty badly). i took him to the vet at totley animal hospital and they told me they had an avarian vet (found out the guy only had a bird when he was younger.. no proper experience) and they charge me £35 just for a consultation! so.. they didn;t find out what the problem is. the bird is quite a panicy bird and won;t sit on my finger.. but hes comfortable with just sitting in my hand. to stop him bleeding i put corn flour on to the tips of the bleeding wings.. i was just wondering if anyone has had similar problems and any other tips!? thanks

bluesandtwos
you can buy a perspex 'hospital' cage for birds though they are quite pricy. we have one, but you could make your own to house him till the blood feathers grow through properly. use a styptic pencil (from boots etc) to stop bleeding, or pets at home do a similar product designed for pets. Jess22
Try phoning Park veterinary hospital on Abbeydale Road, Millhouses. I don't know for definite if they do budgies but they did know a lot about lizards when I had problems with my water dragon. They seem to be a bit more than just a cat/dog vet, I think one of the vets there was a zoo vet. Give them a ring and ask. There number is 0114 236 3391. But sorry, don't know anything about budgies. Gemima
Northern Garden Centre at Oldcotes. The fella there raises his own birds both exotics and budgies he is very approachable and friendly. I am sure he would give you some good advise.
bluesandtwos
If you want a specialist avian vet. THE bird specialist is Harcourt-Brown vet sugery in Harrogate. Its where we go to have our parrots microchipped and virus tested. we used to have them surgically sexed there too, but get it done from DNA via post now. xFix
thanks for help.. i have a feeling its a genetic thing. ive been to park vetinary before i think. They are very good. But one vet once gave a drug they give to cattle to one of my previous birds and it was double the dose that should have been given and made my bird a bit high lol... its not causing too much of a problem now.. its just makes him very nervy and panicky! thanks
