They get the job done, and everyone is really nice, but they tend to be lazy at times... it took 3 weeks for a fax to be sent from one part of sheffield to another...

This is going back 2 years, but we found them lazy, inefficient and generally useless. Their description of our house for the "Property Guide" was way off-beam and we had to basically re-write it for them. The brochure was full of inaccuracies.

They didn't communicate between us and potential buyers, booked viewings for times when we had specifically asked not to have them and sent totally unsuitable viewers (families with 3 teenage kids for a terrace, when we'd already agreed it would appeal most to young professional couples...)

We lost out on the house we were bidding for at that time and they kept pressuring us to close offers on ours anyway, even though we only had 2 offers very slightly above the asking price. They also kept sending us the particulars for houses in Hillsborough when we had specifically said we were looking in Loxley, Wisewood and Oughtibridge.

Happily we have now sold our house with Blundells and bought a house in Loxley through ELR, and we have found both of those companies to be pretty good.

At the end of the day, the estate agents, you speak with have very little to do with the sale of the house. The mess of selling and buying is down to the soliciters who then blame the estate agents.

Estate agents do what they do well.

The description of the house is down to the Valuer, who works the offer price and makes notes of the house.

The estate agent will push other types of people to view your house is few people are intrested in it, unless you specify what kinds of people you do not wish to view it, i.e. familes.

They dont get commission, unless they put on the market, sells, so there is really no point at all in lying to the potential buyer or seller.

The soliciters however, are supposed to communicate with the other sides soliciters. So we have rival solicitors, trying to make themselves look good whilst the others look bad. The seller only hears thier solicitors words and not those of the rival.

Solicitors only have to write out a few already drafted (standard) forms for the seller or buyer to sign. It then needs to be sent to the other party to sign, which in realisitc terms should only take a week. Solicitors are also responable for collecting legal information on the houyse itself, which surley with an on going friendship with legal departments, shouldnt take that long at all.

I blame the solicitors for the ever straining mess!
