Is Train Travel Worth It?

Recommended Posts

I have only ever taken the train once, and will never again. My ride back to the city of steel started out in Doncaster, after I had found a seat I noticed that just about everyone in my carriage was drinking beer, and many of them were quite inebriated (this was at 4pm on a Friday). Unfortunately my seat was opposite the toilet, inside which was a man who was repeatedly shrieking at the top of his voice (although no one seemed to mind). The ticket collector recited poetry as he moved though the carriage. In addition to all of this three women we laid out asleep on baggage rack. It felt more a circus than a train ride and I was relieved when we finally arrived in the city.

Luckily for me I had a jar of Kalamta olives in my bag – Kalamata are my favorite, I was able to console myself with the thought of making an olive based sauce when I got back to the Grenoside area.

My wife never leaves the house without a jar of Kalamta olives secreted in her handbag. :|

Perhaps olives could be given out with the ticket to calm nervous travellers of British Rail.

Personally I would rather travel with a cheese sandwich, beats travelling with a companion, it's quiet, well behaved and doesn't need a seat.

Mention of olives always reminds me of Olive, from the ITV Comedy "On the Buses"! :hihi:

Probably before your time but...what a laugh.

Personally I love olives......not "Olives" you understand. :hihi:
