Tony
It's got stuff all to do with peoples beliefs, religious or otherwise. If those who wish to celebrate JC do so then that's lovely for them, and I suspect that they care little about what appears on stamps. I don't recall the Apocrypha where it says "behold our Lord with His Son on a small square of sticky paper sometime around December". For the overwhelming majority in our modern society Christmas has little more significance than a bit of time off work during which you proflogise with the credit that you can't afford. Personally speaking, if we are going to have JC on the front of our stamps then I think that we should go the whole hog and have frankincense flavour glue on the back too. But maybe... just maybe, this is just yet another opportunity for the hard of thinking to have a moan about something that doesn't matter a jot on behalf of somebody else that doesn't care a jot? Alex C.
Actually, RM have said they have a policy of alternating between religious and non religious themes. That said, Christmas is a very commercial holiday now, and has little to do with Religion for 90% of the population, and I'm not really sure why it would be somehow better for RM to use a christian image instead of a christmas image? Mark Wilson
Christmas has nothing to do with religion. It's always been a pagan festival which was hijacked by Emperor Constantine during the third century AD. He wanted to drum up support for the christian faith and in order to entice pagans into the fold took on some of their celebrations and emblems. The pagans celebrated fish for example and you may see some misguided people with little fish emblems on their cars and clothing. However, I do beleive that as a nation we are gradually loosing our identity. The christmas issue was a topic last year discussed by Bradford Coucil. They had received numerous complaints from people who felt insulted by the sight of Santas Grottos in THEIR department stores, makes my blood boil. They voted, not sure of the outcome, maybe someone knows?. I spend most of my time away from the UK these days, but I am English and will always be English, but I think that as a nation we are viewed by many as second class citizens. Christmas ? Debt + Violence + Depression = December being the highest suicide month of the year. Cheers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing whatsoever to do with bible then eh? Maybe the pagans celebrated fish, so what? Does not have to mean thats where the fish symbol comes from.
