I'm sure there must be some local BT and British Gas employees on the forum?

How about some comments on the Statement/Question thread on the General/General Discussion forum?

Might be handy to see an employee's input....!

I've worked for both (agency) and they both closed their Sheffield offices, to move to leeds. Ah well, better than india i supppose.

I worked for the 'Gas Board' when it was a nationalised industry in the 1970s. I dealt with telephone enquiries and complaints, a bit like a modern day call centre. I have to say in the early days it was a great working environment, the service engineers were fantastic - I remember them working til really late on Xmas eve to make sure everyone's gas oven was working!

I worked in Doncaster for about 10 years til it closed. I relocated to Sheffield for a couple of years, then finally worked in Rotherham until early 1996. My options then were to work in Mansfield or Leeds, so I chose redundancy! In my view, they were a forward looking employer who gave staff good training opportunities, and I had no problems finding other work.

I know they have recently introduced a new billing system - we are changing suppliers and I had a very threatening letter from them - before I'd received my final account! I've now received 2 final accounts? BG had a period of being held in high esteem by customers, and ranked with Marks & Spencers in terms of their customer service. Sadly, those days have long gone.
