Don_Kiddick
Whirlow Hall Farm Trust really needs your help on Monday 13th November. We are not, repeat NOT asking you for money but we would like your support. All it will take is a phone call and the thousands of children who visit Whirlow will benefit. Whirlow Hall Farm Trust is a finalist In The Peoples Millions competition on Calendar News, on Monday November 13th 6pm to 6.30pm, held by ITV Yorkshire in partnership with the Big Lottery. If we get the most votes on the day we will get the £50,000 we need to build our all weather activity area, wildlife garden and disabled access path (see below for more details). Voting lines open 9am – midnight on the 13th November only. On that day the number to call will be in the local press, the Daily Mirror, on http://www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/peoplesmillions and on Calendar TV at 6pm. Please make a diary note to call on that day. Phone calls and texts are at local rates. Please forward this NOW to everyone in your email address list WHIRLOW HALL FARM TRUST Based on a real 130 acre working farm on the edge of Sheffield, Whirlow is an educational charity which offers children an extraordinary opportunity to experience country life and explore a vital part of their environment. Over 8,000 children a year now visit Whirlow on a daily or residential basis and all its services are provided free of charge or at a nominal cost. We have 2 residential units on the farm and one is fully equipped to cater for wheelchair users. Whirlow receives little by way of grants and most of our income has to be earned or fund raised. The children who visit are mainly in the 4-12 age group and the majority live in South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire. However, Whirlow’s name and reputation is spreading and children are beginning to come from much further afield. Whirlow’s highly experienced education team offer a wide range of options, including environmental and healthy eating/living awareness and experiences which can fit in with the curriculum or simply provide an opportunity to touch and stroke animals for the first time. Many of the children who visit have special needs. We endeavour to increase their understanding about sustainability, farming and the environment in general. We now want to extend our offering to our visitors. Wet weather can inhibit our activities so we want to build an all weather activity area, which we will link to our farm buildings with a new wheelchair-friendly path running alongside a new wildlife garden area which we will create by transforming an overgrown waste area. This will attract wildlife for the children to watch safely and at close quarters. We do not have a play area on the farm for children and such a facility would provide a safe place for play and for pony riding. Our project will expand what we can offer to visiting children in a really imaginative and exciting way. We now really need your help. We are not, repeat NOT asking you for money but we would like your support. Whirlow Hall Farm Trust is a finalist In The Peoples Millions Competition, held by ITV Yorkshire on Calendar News, Monday November 13th 6pm to 6.30pm. If we get the most votes on the day we will get the £50,000 we need to complete our project. Phone calls and texts are at local rates. Voting lines open 9am – midnight on Monday 13th November only. We have one teacher who comes regularly with some special needs children. She came in very excited because one child in a wheelchair had just stroked a rabbit. Doesn’t sound much does it? – except that one small action was a major achievement. No one had ever been able to get any form of response from the child before. That’s part of the “magic” of Whirlow. PLEASE Vote for us and help us make Whirlow even more magical. looby_hitch
This is really important. I visited Whirlow for the first time a few months ago and the work they do there is incredible. Please vote on the 13th November. The Farm team said they will be sending out the number on the Monday to make sure everyone cast their votes. Whirlow Hall Farm needs all the support it can get, and I'm pleased to say that I'm now a 'Friend of Whirlow' and have a standing order set up to that effect. If anyone else wants to be a Friend of Whirlow PM me, as I have lots of forms, or contact the Farm directly. Vote for them, vote vote vote. yorkiepudd
Both of my (primary school age) kids have had residential visits there, and enjoyed it immensely. It's fantastic as it gives them all a chance to experience things (regardless of background) they may never otherwise see. I have emailed everyone I know asking them to vote - lets all do this and see what can be achieved.
SpiderPete
Bit of useless info here: I used to live on the Farm many many decades ago, my dad used to run it for a while and I used to work there, this was before it was turned into a Trust. I went to visit the place earlier this year for the first time in over 20 years, the memories just flooded back.

AndyK
Heeley City farm won this competition last year and they've spent the money on a terrific small animal & insect house which just opened last month. Its' terrific! Anyone seen it? Its worth a go when £50k is at stake and we could lose it to West Yorkshire or Leeds/Bradford. .....By the way Heeley City Farm has set up a friends of the farm scheme and is entirely independent and self-funding. Check it out it's worth a visit, especially the kids with the bearded dragon and the creepy crawlies. http://www.heeleyfarm.org.uk
PleaseVote
I understand that Whirlow is a great place I also went there as a kid, but what has not been said is that they are up against another Sheffield Project which has been over shadowed completley by Whirlows great Marketing campaign. The project I will be supporting is the Phillimore Park Community Association who are wanting the money to go towards Youth Facilities in Phillimore Park Darnall. It's a local project in a deprived area as a opposed to a city wide project, which Whirlow is marketed at, and as the underdog I think it needs the vote and is a more deserving project, but thats just my opinion. Yes Whirlow is a nice place that does great work, but I think people are not aware of smaller local projects seeking funding by groups which are made up of Volunteers who also have full time day jobs. I will be posting more information soon and hopefully a link to some web information on the project. Also the star should have an article in tonight or tomorrow. Thanks
KenH
There are two schemes in Sheffield which are competing for this money. My own view is that both schemes are worthwhile but that I would be inclined to go for this one because it helps regenerate a run down area rather than adding to already good facilities at Whirlow:- The other scheme is the Phillimore Park Youth Project. ActNow
I agree nothing against Whirlow, but youth facilities in a deprived area will encourage community cohesion hopefully lessen anti social behaviour and will provide young people with a safe place to hang out. So My Vote goes to Phillimore Park Community Association Thanks
