pitsmoorlad
I visit relatives at Westfield and am disgusted that despite widespread rejection by the vast majority of residents, the proposed new School has gone ahead and is nearing completion. Just who is in favour of this? I can only guess that it's, the builders who are making a huge profit, the Council who are making a load of cash from selling the old school site, and the people who are glad to see the back of the problems that the old school produced. Well thanks a lot say my relatives, you've conveniently shifted the problems elsewhwere. Hope you can sleep soundly in your beds. fox20thc
Well PML if the current plans for wisewood/myers go ahead the north of the city will have the same issue
willman
unfortunately this could have been predicted when they closed carter lodge. the new site was a rubbish and was made safe years ago just for this scenario. more people travel to westfield from other areas these days and it was thought more practical to move the school onto a better transport infrastructure.(alleged better system). although CP will be a permenant school playground at lunchtime i would imagine. willman
following on from this the council are now going to close two of the main arteries past the new school site. 1 going to CP the other into Beighton Eckington Rd. starts today for 10 weeks - traffic calming measures allegedly for the safety of the children. now why couldnt they build a school away from two main arterial routes to & from Sheffield city centre. so the peaks will suffer another loss of trade,'cos if they think i'm gonna queue every visit they can think again. Ginner
Slighty off topic (but related) and apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but does anyone know yet what the old Westfield School site is to be used for (have heard rumours SWFC were gonna locate their training ground there?). Haydn1971
following on from this the council are now going to close two of the main areries past the new school site. 1 going to CP the other into Beightonon Eckington Rd. The works on Eckington Way involve lots of new footways, some minor resurfacing (yes i know it's like a cart track now), a new controlled pedestrian crossing near Batesquire and upgrading the existing crossing near the Waterthorpe Tramstop. Non of these works will require the total closure of Eckington Way, but some will require a lane closure, thus needing temporary traffic lights. Eckington Way is a traffic sensitive route, I'm pretty sure that these lane closures would be out of peak, but I will check. As for Eckington Road, the works involve new wider footways, road humps and road cushions, dropping the speed limit to 30mph, some minor resurfacing and provision of two new zebra crossings for the school. Most of this work will need lane closures, but has to be completed before the school opens the first week in January 2007. Lastly, I'm not from Streetforce, thus have no direct control on site details or programme, if there is a problem on site, in particular AM/PM rush and Saturday, please use the Streetforce Hotline. There is a planning application in for the built up part of the school for use as residential development. Not sure if it's been approved yet though. The green playing fields are thankfully protected from development !
fox20thc
Well as far as I can tell the desires of the public who elect the representatives are not considered valid in any consultation argument which is probably why the decision was made

willman
as sure as eggs is eggs , new houses will be built adding even more of aburden to a congested highway. the only positve is that the number of houses to burgle will increase & at least for a while lower everyone elses chances of gettign done over. that is unless the extend the new manor estate, sorry westfield .
