Annoni_mouse
aren't pretty much all cars foreign? Probably not so much so in the USA....
poppins
oh really, i haven't read about this? i'd be surprised as pretty much every car manufacturer has offered 0% finance I've always been of the impression that they have suffered due to significant falling sales as the ease can produce cars for much less due to cheap labour Could be that also riptony, I just remember a mad dash for new cars about 5 years back. Bago
Do you have any evidence of this from a reliable source? I spend a lot of time reading the financial pages and the electrical goods coming from China are of just as high quality as those produced in the west or Japan. the reason why goods, specifically labour intensive goods are so cheap is because the shear supply of labour naturally implies labour is incredably cheap and as a direct result goods can be produced at a fraction of the cost with no loss of quality. Over the last couple of years American and Japanese electrical manufacturers have shifted a lot of manufacturing to China, some have built their own factories and managed them themselves and some have used local manufacturers. Yes, the source is ME. I noticed that you mentioned 'electrical goods'. I also mentioned something about IPods earlier. (AND...we know how much a problem IPods are, with their faulty batteries.) I say this because, a lot of goods produced from China ends up in HK. Whether it's food (and there's a lot about standards dropping), or just everyday household items. (HK's streets are littered with China's unwanted imports.) The quality is indeed noticeable, or maybe they are just unwanted rejects which didn't pass the QA, and hence they ended up in HK. A lot of marketing spin is placed on products produced in developed countries and lines such as 'non of our item are produced in china' is quite easy on the ears! Well, I'm not aware that there is such marketing. My words are based on products that I've bought over the years. Unless, the manufacturing is indeed moving at a faster pace than I realise, but I would've thought that the manufacturing processes and standards are still not that high. Otherwise you wouldn't hear horror stories of the standards dropping in China. Or electrical products being faulty. Why are certain Japanese electricals expensive still ? For example, why is a Fujitsu laptop more expensive than say an Acer ? If it's not taken into consideration the cost of labour from Japan. Most TV's and fridges a produced in China, JCB are renowned for high quality, only final assembly is completed in the UK, the components are nailed together in China. No, I didn't know that. It still take skills to put it together to make it work, no ? I guess what you're trying to say is that, components are made in China, but the final product may be produced in the UK ? I think it still has to past QA even if assembled, no ? So there's still an element of skill involved, no ? Does that make sense ? My opinion is that the reason why the UK economy is currently and will remain bullish for some time to come is that we have relatively small amounts of manufacturing, we simply can't compete with cheaper labour markets. look at Ford and GM in the US, why do we think they're suffering so badly? They're suffering badly because they're not diversifying ? LOL. *shrugs*
