Claire28
Currently insured on my mk3 golf GL, picking up another golf VR6 tomoro but the insurance people are closed while monday. I am insured 3rd party fire and theft, but when it says on my insurance certificate " The policyholder, if they have a full EU licence, may also drive, with the permission of the owner, any Private Motor Car subject to the terms and conditions of the policy." Now that sounds like i can drive any car?? Too good to be true surely? But does it mean i could drive the VR6 back home tommorow?
Andy
Where are you buying it from? When I picked my car up, the dealers offered a week's complementery insurance (through Norwich Union I think). However I didn't need this as I had already arranged my own, so I don't remember many details.
Raychul69
On some policies you are insured to drive any other viechle 3rd party but the said vehicle must be insured with a company under someone elses name
muddycoffee
If the new Golf is going to be kept by you, then you will be the keeper of the vehicle and not allowed to drive it 3rd party on your other insurance. The 3rd party insurance will only count for cars which belong to others or kept by others. This is why car dealers have insurance which can insure customers for a single day, so they can drive the car home before sorting the insurance. Twiglet
Its just for a day until i sort it out on monday! It doesn't matter. If you get caught by a police car with Automatic Number Plate recognition tomorrow you will be flagged up and they will stop you for driving without insurance. pertfoxylush
The 2nd car can't be owned by you, even if the log book hasn't been changed yet.
fox20thc
You may be allowed to drive any car your insurance policy says you can third party only as long as its not owned by you or hired by you. If you drive it, and its not insured elsewhere you run the risk of an IN10 conviction, fine and points on your license.
