Kthebean
Following on from the beautiful songs thread, I have been listening to Dire Straits today, and it struck me that when my dad dies I will never be able to listen to Dire Straits again because every song reminds me of him playing his guitar when I was a little girl and just thinking he was the coolest person in the whole world...made me feel a bit weepy to be honest! Just wondered what songs remind people of their parents. Elton John is a good one for me, mum likes all the candle in the wind stuff, dad likes saturday night etc.. Salster!
For my mum it would be anything by Meatloaf as she loves him - I was brought up on Bat out of Hell, and knew all the words by the time I was 7 For my dad it would be anything by Iron Maiden as he hated then when I was growing up and listening to them v. loudly - these days his general comment is 'Iron Maiden are they still going', always makes me chuckle:P

babychickens
my mum - goodbye, ruby tuesday (melanie) my dad - almost everything pre 1988. the first that sprang to mind was nights in white satin by the moody blues, and that song with the phrase "what am i supposed to do nowwwwwwww" that may be something to do with blackberry hedges. Applegrim
My mum and I used to share so many songs, and I used to sing to her "Pal of my cradle days" so I thought it quite apt to put it on her headstone.
rubydazzler
I've not heard it for years but my mother loved a Dean Martin song that went something like "sweet, sweet, the memories you gave to me, how sweet the memories you gave to me" I bought it for her for Mother's Day that year and we didn't have a decent player, so she used to take it to her sister's every week and listen to it there. It's the background music to happy, sunny days of childhood, my brother and I playing clock golf on the lawn there with our big cousins' clubs and hide and seek around the garden, whilst the sisters sat with a g&t, chatting and having a crafty smoke! Tears have come to my eyes now thinking of it ... she died aged only 56. Awww! ktb, you've made me cry now
